The 34th annual KRLD Christmas Is for Caring campaign, to bring holiday cheer to residents of the Denton State Supported Living Center, will be on the air today through Friday.
Supporters will be making a lot of Christmas wishes come true for those who live at the center, said Melissa Bradley, director of community relations for the DSSLC.
“The first $20,000 goes to buy their Christmas gifts,” she said. “That’s a very big deal for the people who live here. They love Christmas, whether they’re 18 or 80.”
The community has always been generous in helping DSSLC make sure the holidays are bright, Bradley said.
“The public has never disappointed them, and I don’t think the public ever will disappoint them,” she said.
To donate, supporters can call KRLD-AM “News Radio 1080” at 214-219-1080 during the campaign or donate online at http://www.dentonstateschool.org. Supporters can also make a donation using their cellphones or simply mail a check to the DSSLC. For details about donating by phone or to get the mailing address, visit the website.
“People who call KRLD may give $2 or they may give $2,000, and every penny goes to make life sweeter for these folks,” Bradley said. “It helps the entire campus.”
The annual campaign is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit, Bradley said.
“It renews your faith in humanity because you see the best of people,” she said. “They’re doing good things for all the right reasons.”
